3| Impact
Response 2.2: Describe the prior success of your event/activity/facility to attract tourists.*
Junk-tiquen in the Burg has a proven track record of attracting both visitors and vendors, establishing itself as a consistent
tourism driver for Kittitas County.
Attendance & Vendor Growth:
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Junk-tiquen saw steady growth and became a highly anticipated regional event. While the
pandemic posed challenges and some setbacks, the event has since started regaining momentum. Our one-day shows now
attract nearly 2,000 attendees, with vendor spaces selling out and a waitlist maintained, strong indicators of sustained demand.
Vendors travel from across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, further expanding the event’s reach and drawing new visitors to
Ellensburg.
Tourism Reach & Data Tracking:
We monitor impact using website analytics, unique advertising URLs, and post-event surveys to track visitor origin and
engagement. Data consistently shows a healthy mix of local attendees and tourists, with over 50% traveling more than 50 miles
and 2% from out of state or internationally.
Marketing Effectiveness:
• Top Channels: Facebook campaigns and print ads in regional publications remain our most effective outreach tools.
• Targeted Reach: Advertising is aimed outside the local area to encourage weekend travel and overnight stays.
Social Media & Word-of-Mouth:
The market’s visual appeal inspires attendees to take photos and share their experience online, generating organic buzz and
new interest. Many first-time visitors attend after seeing posts or hearing about the event from friends, contributing to steady
growth and regional visibility.
Recognition & Reputation:
Junk-tiquen has been nationally featured in Flea Market Décor and Flea Market Gardens, validating its appeal to vintage lovers
beyond the local region.
Looking Ahead:
The event remains on an upward trajectory, supported by a loyal base of returning attendees, strong interest from vendors, and
an increasingly effective marketing presence. Through ongoing data analysis and strategic marketing refinement, we are
confident that Junk-tiquen will continue to broaden its audience, draw in new visitors, and play a key role in boosting local
tourism. Building on this established success, we anticipate continued growth, bringing even more visitors and delivering greater
economic and cultural benefits to Kittitas County in the years to come.
2500 character limit
Application Questions: Part 2
