Include any plans for ticket sales,
event sponsors, and other cost-recovery models.*
No
Yes Suncadia - in process
The Washington State Ski & Snowboard Museum (WSSSM) remains committed to long-term sustainability while keeping our
museum free and accessible to the public. Because admission is free and most events are open at no charge, our direct earned
revenue is limited to gift shop sales. However, WSSSM has created a plan that balances modest earned income with diversified
fundraising and sponsorship support to sustain operations well into the future.
In 2024, we achieved our best year yet in fundraising, supported by more than 500 donors and sponsors. At the same time,
operating costs—including rent, staffing, and utilities—have continued to increase, requiring an intentional approach to self-
sufficiency. We have structured our budget to remain lean, while simultaneously building multiple revenue streams:
• Event Sponsorships & Underwriting: Our signature events, such as the Anniversary Celebration & Auction, are supported by
sponsorships from ski industry leaders and local businesses. Sponsorship recognition and cross-promotion ensure these
partnerships remain attractive and renewable.
• Gift Shop Sales: Our retail space, featuring branded merchandise and unique snow-sports memorabilia, provides a direct
revenue stream. As visitation grows through tourism promotion, gift shop sales scale alongside.
• Community Fundraising: WSSSM maintains a broad and loyal donor base across Washington. We are building on this support
with targeted fundraising campaigns and appeals tied to new exhibits, such as the updated Olympic gallery.
• Grant Diversification: In conjunction with our 10th Anniversary milestone, WSSSM is applying for new grants that align with our
mission of cultural preservation, tourism development, and community education.
The Lodging Tax funds remain critical to this strategy. By supporting our marketing efforts, these dollars expand awareness of
the museum, which drives more visitation → more gift shop sales → more supporters → more donations and sponsors. This
cycle has already proven effective, and with continued investment we will grow the audience that sustains our long-term
success.
In short, while WSSSM does not charge admission, we have developed a realistic plan that combines donor support,
sponsorships, retail sales, and expanded grant opportunities to ensure stability and sustainability for the future.
2500 character limit
Application Questions: Part 4
6| Additional Information
