CLAY WHITE stated that Facet, from the Watershed company, is <br /> working with the county to get the Critical Areas Ordinance <br /> draft updated. This includes reviewing any new Best Available <br /> Science (BAS) . The minimal changes from the recent 2025 update <br /> include some clarifying language on the definitions and language <br /> updates, to align better with the WAC. The changes also align <br /> with Best Available Science and State Law, which includes <br /> addressing groundwater supply and anadromous fish considerations <br /> required by law, incorporate EPA, Ecology, DOH, County Health, <br /> and RCW 90 . 48 guidance, and promote that the decisions be based <br /> on BAS with special consideration for anadromous fish. <br /> The next few months staff, the consultants and the Planning <br /> Commission have a busy schedule, there are a lot of moving <br /> parts, we hope to receive more public comments and will be <br /> having the public hearing in March on the Comprehensive Plan. <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> There was no old business . <br /> OTHER BUSINESS - No Action to be taken <br /> There was no other business . <br /> CHAIR COE concluded the Kittitas County Planning Commission <br /> public meeting at 7 : 15 pm. <br /> COMMISSIONER WRIGHT stated that he was hoping we could have a <br /> back and forth conversation and requested that the meeting be <br /> reopened. He stated that the we are dealing with a lot of <br /> comments that need to be reviewed and make land use decisions <br /> that will affect the next 10-20 years . He stated that our local <br /> economy is on the decline and if we don' t fix it, we will be a <br /> county of renters . We need to be aggressive about expanding <br /> economic opportunities in order to have a feasible place to live <br /> and raise a family. <br /> CHAIR COE stated he supports subarea planning and we have a <br /> vision for the future and the easiest way to approach that is <br /> through individualizing the community wants and needs . <br /> COMMISSIONER OSIADACZ stated that there are opportunities in the <br /> areas where uses are allowed under the GMA and that we are in a <br /> challenging time in our community. The cost of living keeps <br /> increasing and we rely too heavily on property taxes and <br /> property owners and if we had more businesses, they would be a <br /> resource for taxes .
