Discussion occurred regarding county employment, housing costs, <br /> energy code, state agencies and buildable land. <br /> COMMISSIONER DENEEN stated that he has read through the first <br /> four chapters of the Comprehensive Plan draft update and has <br /> numerous questions . He has spoken with many people in the <br /> agricultural zones and they are telling him that soon our <br /> commercial agricultural land will be cut in 1/3 or 1/2 because <br /> they are going out of business . He wants to add into the <br /> Comprehensive Plan how to get some of the commercial ag land out <br /> of it . COMMISSIONER DENEEN shared he does not feel that our <br /> Comprehensive Plan is organized to manage the changes needed for <br /> the next 20 years . <br /> COMMISSIONER DENEEN asked what is sustainable development in <br /> section 2 . 3 .2? ERIN O'KELLEY stated that will be new code under <br /> Climate and Resiliency suggestions . CLAY WHITE asked for any <br /> comments to be provided to them in advance . <br /> ERIN O'KELLEY asked the Commissioners what they feel are the <br /> next steps and actions to identify for economic development and <br /> opportunities from a future industry standpoint . She stated the <br /> only thing the team has relied on was the city and county <br /> economic strategic plan that was adopted. COMMISSIONER WRIGHT <br /> stated there is a piece of information that is being developed <br /> right now, the Community Economic Development Strategy. This is <br /> a two county economic district between Yakima and Kittitas <br /> county. CLAY WHITE asked when it would be available, to ensure <br /> that the public gets an opportunity to comment, if it were to be <br /> included in the Comprehensive Plan. CDS DIRECTOR BALA stated he <br /> has already reached out to get the existing information and as <br /> soon as he gets it, he will send it out . <br /> CLAY WHITE stated that there are a lot of commercial uses you <br /> can do in rural areas, they are just scaled to serve the rural <br /> communities rather than to serve the urban communities . CHAIR <br /> COE stated the only way to solve the rural atmosphere aspect is <br /> with guaranteed open space percentages and increased density. <br /> CHAIR COE concluded the Kittitas County Planning Commission <br /> public meeting. <br /> Meeting ended at 8 : 04 pm. <br /> 2026-2-10 MINUTES 5 <br />
