Kate Johnson
continues to oversee all COVID-19 outbreak management within our long-term care facilities, daycares, and other
agencies as needed.
All clinics, hospitals, and laboratories are legally mandated to report all testing and positive results to us. We
appreciate Dora Beukelman's efforts in accurately entering all test results, both positive and negative, into the
Washington State Disease Reporting System (WDRS) in accordance with reporting requirements.
Confirmed Measles Case in Kittitas County
On January 14, 2026, Kate Johnson received notification of a Kittitas County resident who was unvaccinated and
recently traveled to South Carolina, was exposed to someone with Measles, and experiencing symptoms. Pt
returned to Washington state and began experiencing symptoms on January 9, 2026. We received positive test
results on January 15, 2026. While waiting for test results our Communicable Disease Division along with our
Emergency Response coordinator Kelly Bacon hit the ground running and preparing for a positive case. Due to all
our hard work and planning prior to this case, we were ready to respond. Our CD team ( Whitney and Dora, along
with Kate Johnson) worked tirelessly on case and contact investigation of 201 known exposures. With the help of
other staff, we were able to establish a weekend call center. We activated our internal EOC with Chelsey Loeffers
as Incident Commander, Kate Johnson, as Operational Section Chief, and Dr. Mark Larson as our Safety Officer.
We worked closely with CWU and KVH for this response. Due to our response, we only had one case of measles
during the 42-day monitoring period. More information is to come at our Board of Health Meeting Presentation.
RSV Outbreak in Long -Term -Care Facility
The outbreak was officially declared on January 8, 2026, and persisted until January 28, 2026.
