fS i <br />Fiaure 1 — Location of the Portable Bulk Storage Tanks <br />f, <br />r 1_ir <br />- o <br />-n -F=7.,:11-nlVE:T::f <br />m Fn <br />Memo page 2 of 4 <br />��:I�a-3.£ 5fiC8:3E <br />NFPA Requirements for Grounding <br />Per NFPA 70 (NEC) Article 250, any equipment hosting energized conductors shall be grounded. <br />These tanks do not host energized conductors, so this requirement does not apply. <br />Per NFPA 77: <br />12.1.4.1 Large Conductive Tanks: <br />12.1.4.1 For all liquids (from nonconductive to conductive), the following precautions should be <br />taken: <br />(1) The tank and all associated equipment, such as piping, pumps, and filters, should be <br />grounded. <br />12.1.7 Grounding: <br />12.1.7.1 Conductive storage tanks for nonconductive liquids should be grounded. <br />12.1.7.2 Conductive storage tanks on grade -level foundations should be considered inherently <br />grounded, regardless of the type of foundation (e.g., concrete, sand, asphalt). <br />12.1.7.3 For tanks on elevated foundations or supports, the resistance to ground can be as high as <br />1 x 106 ohms and still be considered adequately grounded for purposes of dissipation of static <br />electric charges, but the resistance should be verified.
