lloffi
F1
I
I
t
illi..
Oak Harbor Clean Water Facility
OAK HARBO& WA
MWA was the Architeci for this new, sustainable, and innova-
tive Clean Water Facility in a rural community in Washington.
Located within a commercial district on the waterfront, directly
adjacent to the celebrated Windjammer Park, the new labora-
tory facility serves as a civic asset woven into the community
fabric. This project provides a groundbreaking approach to inte-
grating economic development, recreational uses, and critical
public infrastructure into a sensitive community environment.
lncorporating green building technology, the facility engages
and contributes to its urban site, while addressing requirements
of Washington State's energy code. The Administration and
Maintenance buildings are LEED Silver certified. Harvesting the
heating and cooling from the plant processes, the team
designed a sustainable system that increases the mechanical
efficiency of the buildings and reducing operations costs.
To foster inclusiveness, MWA coordinated with the City of Oak
Harbor and teaming partners to conduct a multi-year public
involvement process. As a result, MWA co-facilitated numer-
ous community outreach meetings, established a large
Community Advisory Group and a project website to inform
and communicate the overall design.
KEY FEATURES
> MWA coordinated the needs of multiple stakeholders
Naiurally lit and tall ceiling laboraiory facilities
u lntegration of wastewater treatment into urban
enviro n me rt
) MWA coordinated the needs of multiple stakeholders
PROJECT INFORMATION
Project Team: MWA Archiiects
Project Type: Laboratory, operations, and maintenance
building or la'ge camDus
Size:3.25 acres I Building: 68,605 SF
Sustainable Elements: LEED Silver Administration Building
Client: Carollo Engineers
!1WA ARCiTTICTS i
