Food Safety
Our food safety team had a standout summer. In August alone, they completed 167 routine inspections not
including permit or license reviews. During Fair & Rodeo Week, they completed 78 inspections over just a few
days, demonstrating incredible efficiency under pressure. To date, 88% of our annual food program inspections
have been completed, keeping us on track with program goals. We're also preparing for growth, with 22 new or
change -of -ownership food establishments anticipated in 2025.
Solid Waste
In June, staff joined Ecology for comprehensive inspections at the Ellensburg Transfer Station, the Moderate Risk
Waste (MRW) facility, and several local composting sites. These joint inspections reflect our continued
commitment to environmental oversight and regulatory compliance, as well as our strong partnerships with state
agencies.
On Site Septic
One particularly notable moment this quarter came in the form of unexpected praise. We received a call from a
historically critical stakeholder, this time to commend the outstanding work of our OSS team. Recognition like this
is rare, and it speaks volumes about the professionalism, consistency, and dedication of our staff. It was a
meaningful acknowledgment of the hard work being done every day.
Emergency Preparedness and Response
• Coordinating bi-annual First Aid and CPR training to ensure all staff maintain current certifications.
Initiating the update of the KCPHD Emergency Operations Plan, in collaboration with all divisions across
the department.
• Managing the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) volunteer vetting process, including required courses,
background checks, and legal clearances before full activation.
• Completing training and system testing in WAServ, the state's updated volunteer registration and contact
platform.
• Entering resources into the Salamander asset tracking system, with the goal of using it at the 2025 Drive-
Thru Flu Clinic to track volunteers, staff, and equipment in real time.
• Planning and coordinating with staff and partners for the 2025 Drive-Thru Flu Clinic on October 24, 2025.
This event provides vaccines to the community while testing our Point of Distribution (POD) response
capabilities.
• Collaborating with Jess to enhance outreach and promotion for the upcoming flu clinic.
Communications
• Drive-Thru Clinic: Jess Santos, Communications Coordinator, is working with Kelly on a communications
plan to promote this year's clinic.
• Website Project: Ongoing.
