KITTITAS COUNTY <br /> DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br /> PUBLIC WORKS—BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT <br /> STUDY SESSION DATE: June 9, 2025 <br /> TOPIC: No. 6 Road and Kittitas Hwy Intersection Study <br /> Update <br /> ACTION REQUESTED: Information only <br /> LEAD STAFF: <br /> Joshua Fredrickson <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Information only,to provide an update on the Kittitas Highway at No. 6 Road <br /> intersection <br /> BRIEFING SUMMARY: <br /> • Kittitas Highway and the intersection with No. 6 Road continue to experience <br /> reported crashes. <br /> • In October of 2023,LED advanced warning signs were installed on both Kittitas <br /> Hwy and No. 6 Road to warn drivers of the upcoming intersection. <br /> • In April of 2024, Public Works installed stop bars on No. 6 Road to help drivers <br /> visually notice the stop condition on No. 6 Road. <br /> • In August of 2024, Public Works worked with adjacent property owners to <br /> remove vegetation to improve sight lines from the stop condition on No. 6 Road. <br /> • Traffic crash data has been updated and reviewed <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Public Works previously conducted a speed study on both Kittitas Hwy and No. 6 Road <br /> and investigated crash data at the intersection of Kittitas Hwy and No. 6 Road. The Board <br /> directed Public Works to monitor the roadway and intersection. <br /> Since 2023 Public Works installed stop bars at the stop condition on the north and south <br /> side of the intersection near the stop signs. Additionally,to improve sight lines for <br /> westbound traffic approaching the intersection,vegetation interfering was removed in <br /> August of 2024. <br /> Crash data has been analyzed for the previous time period. In 2020 there were 2 reported <br /> accidents at this intersection. Reported crashes increased over the next three years, <br /> reporting 4 crashes in 2021, 6 crashes in 2022, 9 crashes in 2023.
