3| Impact
Response 2.1: Why would tourists travel to Kittitas County to attend your event/activity/facility?*
Roslyn draws visitation from the history buff to the recreationalist, eclectic fun seekers, welcoming family-friendly, fun experience
for all ages. We will be utilizing the recommendations from the Arnett Muldrow market analysis and downtown master plan to
continue our strategic messaging to travelers who are considering visiting Roslyn.
2024
Per the KC Chambers Tourism Office - the RDA uses a conservative average annual number of visitors at 225 per week (more
during peak season, less during the slow season) to accommodate for an average throughout the year and calculates at 25%
staying overnight (30% of travelers are leisure travelers: 275 travelers x 52 weeks = 14,352 Annual hotel stays. 662 annual hotel
stays x $127.89 (avg daily rate; STAR Report for the county accommodations) = $84,663 in hotel spending.
2500 character limit
Response 2.2: Describe the prior success of your event/activity/facility to attract tourists.*
Estimates (KC Chambers Tourism Office) indicate that over half of our event attendees traveled from 50 miles away or more in
2024, a trend we anticipate will continue into 2025 and beyond. This year, we successfully hosted our live interactive educational
events, shows, cooking classes, and tours of Roslyn. These offerings attracted approximately 500 additional guests to Roslyn,
generating a lot of enthusiasm.
Additionally, on October 12th, 2023, the RDA-commissioned sculpture was unveiled - the Creator's Law sculpture in Roslyn
Pioneer Park is a significant attraction, drawing considerable tourism to the area. This impressive sculpture enhances the park's
beauty and serves as a profound reminder of the cultural heritage it represents. The RDA hosts a special event annually in
collaboration with the Yakama Nation, offering visitors a unique opportunity to engage with their vibrant history and traditions.
During this event, the Yakama Nation shares the story of the Creator's Laws, immersing attendees in their rich narrative while
showcasing their heritage's artistry and cultural significance. The celebration features captivating performances by Yakama
Nation drummers and dancers, adding rhythm and energy to the occasion and fostering a deeper appreciation for Native culture
among visitors.
The Kittitas County Chamber has been tremendously helpful in providing valuable support and sharing county-wide tourism data
that informs our efforts. The RDA will continue to assess the results of our marketing initiatives and their impact on the
community. Throughout the year, we experience everyday successes that inspire travelers to return. These successes reflect the
prosperity of each downtown business owner and contribute to the overall economic development of Kittitas County.
As an all-volunteer Washington State Main Street designated community, we focus on Promotion, Organization, Design, and
economic development. The RDA is committed to realizing Roslyn's full potential and we strive to keep pace with our rapidly
growing region. We utilize effective promotion and destination marketing to consistently tell Roslyn's compelling story and
ensure year-over-year growth in attracting visitors.
2500 character limit
Application Questions: Part 2
