Response 2.1: Why would tourists travel to Kittitas County to attend your event/activity/facility?*
Vintage markets have a unique allure, drawing shoppers from near and far to experience the charm of one-of-a-kind finds.
Ellensburg’s prime location in Washington makes it a popular meeting point to explore our vibrant community while enjoying the
thrill of the Junk-tiquen shows. With events held in spring and fall, visitors are treated to stunning valley views and an array of
local attractions. Junk-tiquen isn’t just a shopping event; it’s a gathering that fosters community and connection. Shoppers
eagerly come to meet friends and family, making the market a cherished experience for many. The market features charming
vintage trucks, trailers, and other unique backdrops that create perfect photo opportunities. These elements not only enhance
the experience but also encourage attendees to share their memories on social media. Junk-tiquen has built a vibrant
community of vendors and attendees who come back year after year!
The excitement begins early! Our shows kick off at 9 AM, with lines forming as early as 8! Many dedicated shoppers opt to arrive
in town the night before, turning their visit into a weekend getaway. Attendees often take advantage of Kittitas counties local
dining and entertainment options, making the market not just a shopping destination but a delightful experience for all.
Our diverse vendors hail from across Washington and beyond, each bringing their unique customer base. This network
enhances the event's appeal, as shoppers often follow their favorite vendors from show to show, contributing to a festive
atmosphere that feels like a reunion. Given that vendors often take hours to set up and dismantle their displays, many require
accommodations for two nights.
2025 Projections:
• We anticipate over 50% of attendees will be tourists traveling more than 50 miles, with 2% coming from out of state or
outside the US.
• Approximately 15% of visitors are expected to stay in overnight paid accommodations, further benefiting our local
economy.
Our projections are supported by robust analytics, including website analytics: Tracking visitor engagement and origin, specific
URL’s and surveys collecting insights from attendees.
Past data shows that over 49% of attendees are tourists from over 50 miles away, while 2% travel from out of state or
internationally. Additionally, survey results indicate a demographic range primarily between 20 to 65 years old, with a growing
interest from male shoppers.
2500 character limit
Response 2.2: Describe the prior success of your event/activity/facility to attract tourists.*
Junk-tiquen experienced significant growth and popularity before the COVID-19 pandemic, but like many events, it faced
challenges during that period. Since then, we have been dedicated to revitalizing our momentum and are pleased to see positive
results.
Current Attendance and Vendor Participation: Our one-day shows consistently attract over 2,000 attendees and vendors,
showcasing the continued interest in vintage market shopping. We’re grateful for the enthusiastic support from both local and
out-of-county and out-of-state shoppers, which has helped us regain traction.
Tracking Success Through Data: Utilizing website analytics, specific advertising URLs, and survey results, we’ve been able to
effectively monitor where our visitors and vendors are coming from. This data is crucial in evaluating the effectiveness of our
marketing strategies and understanding how attendees learned about the event.
Marketing Insights:
• Effective Channels: A significant number of attendees report discovering Junk-tiquen through Facebook, newspaper and
magazine ads.
• Targeted Approach: Our marketing efforts particularly focus on reaching audiences over 50 miles away, as well as out-of-
state visitors. This strategy has shown positive results.
We are excited about the progress we’ve made and remain committed to enhancing our marketing efforts. By continually
tracking data and refining our strategies, we are optimistic about the future of Junk-tiquen and look forward to welcoming even
more shoppers and vendors to our events and county.
2500 character limit
Application Questions: Part 2
