a result, we have been able to analyze specific programs and begin tracking data that will inform
future decision -making. With these refinements underway, the EH Manager has been able to
dedicate more time to identifying new revenue sources and strengthening relationships with
community and agency partners. This includes developing long term educational outreach
programs and enhancing overall program development.
Future Efforts in Education
Looking ahead, the division is prioritizing an expansion of environmental health education. The
rationale behind this initiative is that a well-informed public will have fewer compliance issues,
reducing the need for mitigation and enforcement efforts. By increasing awareness of permitting
requirements and safe environmental practices, we anticipate a long-term decrease in
enforcement actions, leading to a more proactive and engaged community.
Emergency Preparedness and Response
Kelly Bacon, our Local Emergency Response Coordinator, is Working on Public Health Emergency
Response (PHEP) deliverables, which include updates to the Emergency Operations Plan, an
Integrated Preparedness Plan, reinvigorating our local Medical Reserve Corp program, and
planning tabletop exercises and community events. She is also coordinating training opportunities
with both our local EM program and regional partners for KCPHD and county staff, and training on
our Salamander EM software.
Assessment
Assessment Coordinator MacKenzie Carter is in the thick of strategic plan and trying to get our
goals all to a place where we can form work groups and plan activities to meet the goals and
objectives that have been identified. We are in the beginning stages of a Behavioral Health Needs
Assessment, which will include multiple opportunities for community input in the form of key
informant interviews, community survey, and focus groups. The data gathered through this
assessment will help inform future behavioral health programs and funding priorities. MacKenzie is
also working with Kittitas County Health Network on gathering data from the first year of
Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) work and connecting with community partners on
CHIP data.
Epidemiology
Epidemiologist Lianne Bradshaw has been working on a data use policy, a data handbook, data
menu, and staff training around these topics. She has also been working with various staff on
pulling data to support their programs or grant applications and working on monthly and an annual
Communicable Disease report.
13
