<br />Kittitas County, Washington <br /> <br />Job Description <br /> <br />POSITION TITLE: GIS TECHNICIAN <br />☒ CREATED: 8/01/2024 <br />REPORTS TO: <br />DEPARTMENT: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) <br />JOB SUMMARY: The GIS Technician is responsible for supporting the GIS team by performing <br />system maintenance tasks, administering licensing and permissions, <br />troubleshooting issues for GIS content creators and editors, and maintaining and <br />updating the County’s Experience Builder, Dashboard, and Survey 123 solutions. <br />Additionally, this position may assist with mapping duties during wildfire events <br />and other mapping projects. Must maintain courteous and cooperative working <br />relationships with administrative and other County personnel, public agencies, and <br />the general public, and work under the guidance of Local/State/Federal regulations <br />and County policies/procedures. <br />SUPERVISORY DUTIES: None <br />CATEGORY: Full-Time OCCUPATION CODE: xxxx <br />UNION AFFILIATION: None HOURS/WEEK: 40 <br />FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt DRS ELIGIBILITY: PERS <br />PROBATIONARY PERIOD: 12 months <br /> <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS <br />• Perform regular updates, backups, and maintenance of GIS systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability. <br />• Manage user accounts, permissions, and software licenses for GIS applications. <br />• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues for GIS content creators and editors, providing timely and effective <br />solutions. <br />• Work on updates and maintenance for Experience Builder, Dashboard, and Survey 123 solutions, ensuring they <br />are up-to-date and functioning correctly. <br />• Maintain accurate records of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. <br />• Provide training and support to GIS users to enhance their understanding and utilization of GIS tools and <br />applications. <br />• Review and make routine interpretations of data sources and use basic GIS software functions to enter, edit, and <br />update GIS spatial data, including points, lines, polygons, and attribute data into databases or layers, following <br />standard procedures. <br />• Provide high-quality, timely, and user-friendly geographic information to staff for basic information requests. <br />• Maintain rudimentary knowledge of current GIS methods, applications, and database technologies through <br />professional literature, product research, continuing education, and supervisor-approved conferences and <br />seminars. <br />• Establish and maintain professional relationships with other County departments and outside agencies, such as <br />the Sheriff’s Office, Community Development Services, and KITTCOM in order to provide excellent technical <br />support. <br /> <br />OTHER FUNCTIONS <br />• Assist the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) in mapping duties or other functions in the event of an emergency. <br />• Participate in and complete special projects as assigned. <br />• Serve as backup to other staff performing GIS functions as needed.
