4.1 Collaboration*
4.2 Promoting Local
bUsrness
4-3 Host Hotel*
We work collaboratively within the Laughing Horse Arts Foundation with other
entities such as Central Washington University, local schooi districts. and other
comrnunity and senriproiessional theaters in the area to promote the goal of
producing musical theater events. For the recent production of 9 io 5, we secured a
large portion of set pieces, props and costumes from Twelfth Night Productions in
Seattle that they were divesting, saving us thousands in costs. We work with and
continue to develop our relationship with C\AlU's Music, Theater and Film
departments, and the Ellensburg School District; many facuity members have
donated their iinre and efforts behind lhe scenes and performed in our shows.
Laughing Horse Arts Foundation has several sub-organizations. in Ellensburg and
Cle Elum, and we cross-promote activities and events, and even collaborate for
resources if needed for a production. All of our actorslperfornrers volunteer their time
to rehearse and perform the shows, as well as backstage crew, set builders,
costumers, and hairlmakeup helpers who volunteel their time to make sure the show
looks and runs smoothly.
One of the results with the pandemic is that we had to find alternative theatrical
venues in our comnrunity. The two main theatres available in Ellensburg are located
in public buildings, which were closed for the majority of 2A2O-2A21. One of our
proud successes is that we created new partnerships with local businesses and
local organizations including the Clymer Museunr and Foundation. and Hotel
Windrow to utilize non-traditional spaces and ballrooms for thealrical pedormances.
and we have continued to develop tbese partnerships.
Valley Theatre Company is a stakeholder in the newly formed Ellensburg Arts and
Cultural Alliance and is represented on its board. Since 2021 we have been a part of
tlre investment, straiegic planning. and inrplementation process. This alirance is
made up of members from the city and county leaders. business development,
artists and educators to develop a thriving artist community in Ellensburg.
2501.1 .ir"railer lirnii
l)esciie hrrtf yor-i w!!l !ironrole iodgia,-j eslablishqre!ris. illsleu.anis ?ln,l busr.!ess ic4?idai .n Kiliiias Cocri,/
Over the past t\flo years, we've had measurable success workrng with Ellensburg
resiaurants to create cross-promoiion opportunities during the weekends of our
event. Some have offered discounts on appetizers or desserls to ticket holders,
olhers have created custorn cocktails, r:r themed menus. They advertised our show
via flyers on the table, and we advertised the specials on clur website and ticketing
platform. Restaurants had the freedom to structure the special as worked best for
them. We've had limited success in conrrecting with hotel managers for stay and see
a play packages, and are continuing to build and gei the word out.
We also rely on local business support to put on the shows itself. with many
businesses providing in-kinC donation sponsorship and support. For instance. at ihe
recent production we received in kind business donations of costume cleaning,
plrotography services, hairstyling, set and prop donations, discounts on paint
materials, ancl concession donations. All told we received approxinrately $4,000 in
in-kind dorrations from businesses for "9 to 5", and eaclr of these supporters are
recognized in our program and on our sponsorship signage at the show.
2500 character iirnri
ls iherc a host hoter icr'loLir event or gr:rsl Drs,eai? it y3s. iist lbe ho"e'
No
Yes.
5l Future Plans
Please explain what plans exist to allow this project to become self-sustaining. lnclude any plans for ticket sales, event
sponsors, and other cost-recovery models.
