File structure—BehavePlus has a prescribed file structure that is installed with the pro-
gram (for example, FuelModelFolder and RunFolder). (Section 9.1)
FlamMap—A spatial fire behavior system, in which basic operation conditions are con-
stant in time and vary in space. (Appendix C)
Fuel model—A code -such as 2 or GR2 is entered to assign a set of values that describe
the fuels (for example, fuel load and fuel bed depth) for the surface fire spread model in
the SURFACE module. (Section 10)
Guide button—A blue Guide button that contains an arrow is associated with each input
variable on the worksheet. It opens a window with guidance on input values in the center
pane and help information in the right-hand pane. (Section 3.1.3)
Help window—The right-hand pane of most BehavePlus windows that contains informa-
tion related to the subject of the window. (Section 15.3)
Icon—Icons on a toolbar at the top of the BehavePlus window are for commonly used
commands (for example, Module Selection, Calculate, and page navigation). (Section
3.1.1)
Input options—Options that define input methods (such as the option to input or to
calculate wind adjustment factor). Selection is made on the window that opens from the
Options... button associated with a module. (Section 3.2.3; Appendix D)
Map distance—A check mark in the Module Selection window adds map distance out-
puts for selected distance output variables (for example, surface spread distance and spot-
ting distance). Map distance is the calculated distance times the map scale. (Section 14.1)
Menu—The menu items located in the toolbar at the top of the BehavePlus window pro-
vide access to all BehavePlus commands. (Section 3.1.1)
Model—Mathematical relationships that describe an aspect of wildland fire (for example,
flame Iength and scorch height). (Section 2)
Module—A logical grouping of models in BehavePlus (for example, SURFACE, SIZE,
and CROWN). (Section 2)
Moisture scenario—A code such as D2L3 is entered to assign a set of fuel moisture val-
ues (1-h, 10-h, 100-h, live herbaceous, and live woody) for the surface fire spread model
in the SURFACE module. (Section 11)
Native units—The units of the publication that describes a mathematical model. Behave -
Plus calculations are done in the native units, regardless of the units selected for input and
output variables. Internal conversions can lead to differences due to round off. (Section 5)
Run—A BehavePlus worksheet in which values have been assigned to the required input
categories. A run file includes not only what is visible, but an entire suite of selections,
including selections made on table and graph output. (Section 3; Appendices D -H).
110 USDA Forest Service Gen. Tech. Rep. RMRS-GTR-248.2014
