Tourism Infrastructure Needs. The project addresses the need for local communities who use lodging tax fi;nds, by installing trail counters ("people counters") to collect information on usership of tourism-related capital facilities and attendance at events, The Disc Golf Course Projcct will increase tourism by drawing serious disc golf enthusiasts and casually curious tourists off of I-90 to compete or even just explore and stretch their legs. The 2020 Hanson Ponds Park Project will be installing a restroom adjacent to the Disc Golf Course, as well as improving parking and picnic faoilities. Signs at the Hanson Ponds Park will also include maps of other parks and trails in the Cle Elum recreational system, which could direct visitors from the Disc Golf Course into the rest of the City in search ofother recreational experiences, food, goods, and services. 3. Use of Grant Funds: Please explain exactly how the request€d funds will be used. lnclude an itemized list. Grant funds will be used as follows: Project Component #l (as described above) The City will purchase 5 hail counters. Two of lhese will be located fbr long-term data collection as described in answer #l above, and the other three will be deployed in altemate locations, depending on when the units are received. For example, the three portable units may be placed at various parks or trails or even in the downtown. IF the units were received before an equestrian evcnt on the Coal Mines Trail, a porlable unit may be placed several feet above the long-term Coal Mines Trail counter to pick up how many horse and riders were using the trail at that time. Project Component #2 (as described above) The City will order signs for the existing disc golf course, contract a new logo, create a brochure, and promote the disc golf course on applicable recreation websites, such as the National Disc Golf Course Association website. Grant fund expenditures are also itemized in the attached budget. Matchedfunds for the Dog Park trail counter includes the $69,675 park project funding. The Dog Park project received a $53,000 City Lodging Tax grant in February, 2020 to construct the park, of which $3,000 was e armarked for a trail counter. Matched funds for the Diso Golf Course signs, logo, and brochures include $34,520 in private grant funds (fi27,200) and City rnatch ($8,220), Mrrdr Gruntt Together, the request constitutes 3% of the total matchedfunds.
