Response 2.1 *Vlhy would tourists travd to Kjttitas County to attend yexr eventractivitlfacility?
The Museum seeks funding to support advertising for marketing and production of
e{ribits, lectures, and neirsletters that connect county history with a wider
audience.
Visitors traveling in and to Kittitas County often find themselves interested in the
history of the community they are visiting. The Kittitas County Historical Museum is
dedicated to the collecting arrd preservation of our county's history and the display
and interpretation of that history, often drawing people from across the world to the
facility to eplore local history, uhether as an immediate destination or
complinrentary destination on a visit to and through Ellensburg.
lndividuals may be interested in learning information about local history on a myriad
of topics, such as family history and building history. Or they may be interested on
specific topics, such as being vehicle enthusiasts or rock and mineral collectors.
Since ihe Museum is focused on the entirety of Kittitas County history, wthin 2,333
square miles, there is quite a bit of hisiory going back to its geological roots to
modern day.
Visitors often come through for oLrr exhibits, which some highlights are the
Ellensburg Blue Agate display, the neon signs, the antique automobile collection,
mining and logging history, local agricultural display, Native American basketry and
beaduork, the military service room, a railroad display, and county-wide business
ephemera.
Many of our e*ribits also include things about other organizations and displays
throughout the county, or are developed through collaborative efforts with groups
and museums in and around Kittitas County. For example, in 2021, exhibit plans
include displays by the Kittitas Reclamation District; the Kittitas County Fair and 4H
groups; and the Rodeo Ciiy Rodeo Girls. Displays on banking history (focusing on
the Kittitas State Bank, Cle Elum State Bank, and Roslyn Bank Robbery), and
disastrous events (like the 1906 and 1948 floods in Ellensburg and Cle Elunr) may
ir.rclude partnerships with the Roslyn Museum, the Roslyn-Ronald-Cle Elum
Heritage Club, the Northern Kittitas County Historical Society, and others.
Our Lecture Series includes presentations on various aspects ol Kittitas County
history, st-rch as geology, Native American history, and interesting tidbits of local
lore and legend. Presenters encourage lhe participants to visit locations
throughout the County, and brochures are provided to further encourage visitors
and event attendees.
2500 charailer lirit
