BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />COUNTY OF KITTITAS <br />STATE OF W.A,SMNGTON <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2017 - <br />TO AUTHORIZE THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS TO REMOVE THE <br />DAMAGED BRIDGE AT BAR 14 ROAD OVER NANEUM CREEK <br />WHEREAS: The bridge at Bax 14 Road over Naneum Creek suffered significant damage due to <br />debris buildup during flood events in the spring of 2017; and <br />WHEREAS: The bridge can no longer maintain a full service level, is restricted to a single lane <br />of traffic, and is functionally obsolete hydraulically; and <br />WHEREAS: Public Works has consulted with Northwest Hydraulic Consultants to seek options <br />and alternatives to alleviate flooding to neighboring residents and to improve the <br />functionality of the existing bridge resulting in the recommendation of the removal <br />of the existing structure and to perform minor grading in the immediate vicinity; <br />and <br />WHEREAS: Bridge replacement is not advisable until system wide, hydraulic improvements, <br />both upstream and downstream are completed; and <br />WHEREAS: Funding sources supporting the bridge replacement will be dismal due to the low <br />vehicle use of 57 average daily trips, and available detour routes within very short <br />distance; and <br />WHEREAS: Public Works will seek to construct turnarounds in the vicinity of the bridge in <br />2018; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners, in the best <br />interest of the public, does hereby direct the Director of Public Works to remove <br />the damaged bridge at Bar 14 Road over Naneum Creek, perform required grading <br />in the immediate vicinity, and seek to construct turnarounds in 2018. <br />DATED on this 23rd day of October, 2017, at Ellensburg, Washington. <br />Attest; <br />❑ Clerk of the Board- Julie Kjorsvik <br />Deputy Clerk of the Board- Mandy Buchholz <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COM IISSlONPRS <br />KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON <br />Paul Jewell, Chairman <br />Laura Osiadacz, Vice -Chairman <br />Obie O'Brien, Commissioner <br />
