Option 4 Any urban pedestrian <br />facility option as approved <br />by the County Engineer <br />12.04.09.050 Sidewalks and Curbs. <br />Roads that are classified as urban per KCC 12.03 shall include curb and gutter, and/or sidewalk. Urban <br />roads within an approved UGA shall meet the requirements of the UGA. <br />Sidewalks. <br />The design and construction of all sidewalks shall meet the standards set forth in the most current <br />edition of WSDOT Standard Plans pertaining to cement concrete sidewalks. All pedestrian surfaces <br />shall be designed and constructed in full compliance with ADA guidelines for accessibility. <br />Form and subgrade inspection by the county is required before the sidewalk is poured in accordance <br />with KCC 12.05.42 <br />Sidewalks shall be a minimum five feet wide. The County Engineer may require additional sidewalk <br />width on a case by case basis. Typical justifications for the requirement of additional sidewalk width <br />include but are not limited to the following: <br />A. Adjacent to store frontages in commercial business districts that are less than fifty feet from the <br />right-of-way, <br />B. Within the curb radius return where curb ramps are required, <br />C. Within designated bus zones to provide a landing area for wheelchair access to transit services, <br />or <br />D. As warranted by projected pedestrian traffic volume. <br />School Access. <br />Pedestrian facilities for school access shall be provided in accordance with the safe walking plans as <br />developed by individual schools and school districts. In addition, pedestrian facilities will be required in <br />new subdivisions to facilitate access to schools and new or existing bus stops. The applicant shall <br />coordinate with local schools and school district officials to identify established safe walk routes. <br />Development improvements shall be consistent with safe walking plans where they are available. <br />Curb and Gutter. <br />The design and construction of curb and gutter shall meet the standards set forth in the most current <br />edition of WSDOT Standard Plans pertaining to cement concrete curb and gutter.
