Public Road Name Sign Placement Criteria <br />1. The road name sign shall be placed where the road name is clearly visible to oncoming traffic. <br />2. The sign shall be located in the vicinity of the intersection, preferably within the dedicated <br />public right-of-way, at least 5' but not more than 10' from the edge of the pavement, <br />3. The sign should be placed in a manner consistent with existing road name signs on that road and <br />on those of the intersecting road. <br />4. The location of the sign should take into consideration the turn radius of large vehicles and the <br />volume of snow displaced by snow plows. <br />5. The area should be kept clear of weeds and other obstruction to visibility. <br />Private Road Name Sign Placement Criteria <br />Road Name Sign Installation Standards <br />Road name sign will be installed according to the following standards: <br />1. Road name signs will be installed on a 10' long, 4"x 4" pressure treated wood post. <br />2. The post will be buried 18" to 3' deep. A concrete footing is not required. Call the One Call Center at <br />1-800-424-5555 a minimum of 48 hours in advance for buried utility locations. <br />3. The road name sign when mounted on the post will be parallel to the road with that name, so as to <br />be clearly visible to traffic on the crossroad. <br />4. For public on system road name signs: Each road name requires two single sided road name signs <br />(one posted in each direction) per post. Signs should be mounted on the post approximately 2" to 3" <br />below the top of the post. The sign shall be firmly installed to the post. <br />5. For public off -system roads and private road name signs, each sign post requires two single -sided <br />road name signs. Signs should be mounted on the post approximately 2" to 3" below the top of the <br />post. The sign shall be firmly installed to the post. <br />M. <br />
