Road Name Sign Standards <br />At establishment of a private road name, the PW Department provides the first road name signs. Costs <br />are included in the private road naming application fee. All replacement road name signs and other <br />required signage for the private road such as warning or advisory signs are at the cost of the residents of <br />the road. <br />WSDOT will also install and maintain road name signs at the intersection of a state highway and public <br />or private roads. <br />Other jurisdictions will install and maintain road name signs at the intersection of other roads and <br />county roads. <br />Road Name Sign Construction Standards <br />Both private and public on -system road, name signs shall measure eight inches (8") high by the length <br />required for the road name, be constructed of aluminum and covered with reflective engineering grade <br />sheeting. Lettering on signs shall be composed of initial upper-case letters at least 6 -inches in height <br />and lower-case numbers at least 4.5 -inches in height. Number shall be at least 6 -inches in height. Road <br />names signs shall comply with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), most recent <br />version. <br />Public on -system roads shall have a green background and white lettering. <br />Green Background <br />Public On -System Rd <br />6" Upper and 4.5" Lower Case White Lettering <br />Private and Public off -system roads shall have a white background and black lettering. <br />White Background <br />Private or Off -System Rd <br />6" Upper and 4.5" Lower Case Black Lettering <br />TWO SINGLE SIDED ROAD NAME SIGNS ARE PROVIDED WITH ALL NEW PRIVATE ROAD NAME <br />APPLICATIONS.
