www.evergreenWITB.org <br />May 18,2016 <br />The Honorable Geoff Scherer <br />Mayor,City of Roslyn <br />Box 451,Roslyn,WA 98941 <br />Letter of Support:Town to Teanaway Community Forest <br />Dear Mayor Scherer: <br />The Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance (Evergreen)enthusiastically supports the City of Roslyn's Town to <br />Teanaway project to purchase 160 acres of private property between the Roslyn Urban Forest and the extensive <br />public lands to the north. <br />Evergreen is Washington's largest mountain bike organization with nearly 3,000 members and over 12,000 <br />supporters statewide.We are dedicated to trail building and maintenance,as well as volunteerism,education, <br />advocacy,and youth participation.As a trusted partner with public land managers across the state,Evergreen's <br />volunteers contributed just over 15,000 hours of volunteer labor last year. <br />The Teanaway Community Forest is on track to become one of the most amazing non-motorized recreation <br />areas in the State,offering unique new trail access and opportunities for hikers,mountain bikers,and <br />equestrians,as well as improved recreational access to the natural and geological beauty of the valley.The <br />proposed Town to Teanaway project offers a crucial trail connectivity opportunity,which is proven to lead to <br />multiple economic and community benefits,including: <br />1)Increased tourism spending and overnight stays; <br />2)New branding opportunities for businesses in town and in the region; <br />3)Increased ability to secure future trail building,habitat and tourism planning grant funding; <br />4)Improved community health by offering residents access and connections to the outdoors; <br />5)Attracting new outdoor recreation businesses,such as tour operators,gear &bike shops,and others. <br />Town to Teanaway will build upon the greater regional vision to create recreational connectivity between the <br />communities of Roslyn,Cle Elum,Ronald,and the Suncadia Master Planned Resort.The project directly <br />addresses a current disconnect between Roslyn's popular trail networks to the regional trail systems found on <br />The Nature Conservancy lands and within the Teanaway Community Forest. <br />We strongly support the Town to Teanaway project and the City in its effort to create regional connectivity. <br />Sincerely, <br />Yvonne Kraus <br />Executive Director <br />Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization.Tax ID:91-1553023. <br />418 NE 72""Street |Seattle WA 98115 |206.524.2900 |wwww.evergreenMTB.org
