R Town Commungy
PO Box 297
WA 98947
May 19,2016
Mayor Geoff Scherer
City of Roslyn
Box 451
Roslyn,WA 98941
Dear Mayor Scherer:
The RTown Corununity Board unanimously supports the City of Roslyn's Town to Teanawayproject and the
purchase of 160 acres of private property between the Roslyn Urban Forest and the extensive public lands to the
north.
RTown's mission is to:encourage andinivate new endeavors and mcreased pardcrþadonm communitynetwonts m
Roslyn and upper Eitdtas County.Our vision is to be a:sustamable orgarnzadon that w21meet the needs and
celebrate the special quakdes ofour communityforgeneradons to come.
Regional and connecting trail systems offer benefits to local families,business owners and visitors.Specific benefits
include:
1)Increased tourism spending and overnight stays;
2)Brandmg opportunities for businesses in the region;
3)Ability to attract and secure grant funding in support of the trail,habitat and tourism expansion opportunities;
4)Decreased health care costs for communities with connected trails;
5)Increased opportunities for new businesses associated with outdoor recreation including restaurants,hotels,gear
shops and other affiliated business.
The Town to Teanawayplan also builds upon a long-held community vision to create recreationalconnections
between the communities of Roslyn,Cle EIum,Ronald,and the Suncadia Master Planned Resort.The current
interruption in public ownership disconnects Roslyn's trail network and surrounding trail systems (which include
the the Coal Mines Trail,Suncadia trail system,Washington State Horse Park trails,and the John Wayne Trail)
froml trail systems on Nature Conservancy lands and in the TeanawayCommunity Forest.
RTown Community tracks visitors and tourists during our events which include the 2015 Wild Run,Roslyn
Outdoor School Fund Raisers and Roslyn Art Festivals.Our events draw local and extended Families and visitors
during the year.Trails and experiences in nature are the most frequently cited reasons for visits to our region and
any opportunity to expand those ofTerings would have signiÏicant impacLs
We applaud the City of Roslyn for taking this proactive step to securing funds for the future of outdoor recreation in
our County.Best of luck and please let us know how we can assist in the future.
Sincerely,
JWiiine Brodine
RTown Secretary and Treasurer
