Hon.Geoff Scherer
Mayor,City of Roslyn
Box 451
Roslyn,WA 98941
Dear Mayor Scherer:
The enthusiastically supports the City of Roslyn's Town to
Teanaway project to purchase 160 acres of private property between the Roslyn Urban Forest
and the extensive public lands to the north.
Regional and connecting trail systems offer multiple economic benefits to communities
including:
1)Increased tourism spending and overnight stays;
2)Branding opportunities for businesses in the region;
3)Ability to attract and secure grant funding in support of the trail,habitat and tourism
expansion opportunities;
4)Decreased health care costs for communities with connected trails;
5)Increased opportunities for new businesses associated with outdoor recreation
including restaurants,hotels,gear shops and other affiliated business.
Town to Teanaway also builds upon the vision to create recreational connectivity between the
communities of Roslyn,Cle Elum,Ronald,and the Suncadia Master Planned Resort.TheinterruptioninpublicownershipdisconnectsRoslyn's trail network and surrounding trail
systems including the Coal Mines Trail,Suncadia trail system,Washington State Horse Parktrails,and the John Wayne Trail,from the regional trail systems found on The Nature
Conservancy lands and in the Teanaway Community Forest.
The _depends on visitors and tourists to our area for economicsustainability.Trails and ex iences in nature are the most frequently cited reasons for visitstoourregionandanyopportunitytoexpandthoseofferingswouldhavesignificantimpacts.
Congratulations to the City of Roslyn for taking this proactive step to securing funds for thefutureofoutdoorrecreationinourCounty.Best of luck and please let us know how we can
assist in the future.
