Hon.Geoff Scherer <br />Mayor,City of Roslyn <br />Box 451 <br />Roslyn,WA 98941 <br />Dear Mayor Scherer: <br />The &¾e y $4 M Si enthusiastically supports the City of Roslyn's Town to <br />Teanaway project to purchase 160 acres of private property between the Roslyn Urban Forest <br />and the extensive public lands to the north. <br />Regional and connecting trail systems offer multiple economic benefits to communities <br />including: <br />1)Increased tourism spending and overnight stays; <br />2)Branding opportunities for businesses in the region; <br />3)Ability to attract and secure grant funding in support of the trail,habitat and tourism <br />expansion opportunities; <br />4)Decreased health care costs for communities with connected trails; <br />5)Increased opportunities for new businesses associated with outdoor recreation <br />including restaurants,hotels,gear shops and other affiliated business. <br />Town to Teanaway also builds upon the vision to create recreational connectivity between the <br />communities of Roslyn,Cle Elum,Ronald,and the Suncadia Master Planned Resort.The <br />interruption in public ownership disconnects Roslyn's trail network and surrounding trail <br />systems including the Coal Mines Trail,Suncadia trail system,Washington State Horse Parktrails,and the John Wayne Trail,from the regional trail systems found on The Nature <br />Conservancy lands and in the Teanaway Community Forest. <br />The Smes 4 6 M,Laf depends on visitors and tourists to our area for economicsustainability.Trails and experiences in nature are the most frequently cited reasons for visitstoourregionandanyopportunitytoexpandthoseofferingswouldhavesignificantimpacts. <br />Congratulations to the City of Roslyn for taking this proactive step to securing funds for thefutureofoutdoorrecreationinourCounty.Best of luck and please let us know how we can <br />assist in the future. <br />Sincerely,
