<br /> <br /> <br />KITTITAS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />AGENDA STAFF REPORT <br /> <br />AGENDA DATE: September 15, 2026 <br /> <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Approve a Resolution Authorizing the Chair’s signature on <br />the Federal Capital Contract with the Washington State Broadband <br />Office for Broadband Expansion in the County and to Accept Federal <br />and State funding for the Project. <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: Funding for deployment of broadband services to areas within the <br />County has been made available through the National <br />Telecommunications and information Administration (NTIA) <br />Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program. BEAD <br />is administered by the Washington State Broadband Office (WSBO) <br />within the Washington State Department of Commerce. <br /> <br />WSBO has noticed the County on the award of seven project areas <br />within Kittitas County. WSBO has provided the County with the <br />contract for consideration to accept the funding and move forward <br />with the project. Contracts with WSBO are to be executed and <br />returned to WSBO by October 8, 2026. Washington State also made <br />State funding available to cover the required public match for eligible <br />public-entity applicants. <br /> <br />With the state-funded match included, the seven County BEAD <br />project areas represent more than $33 million in broadband <br />investment. <br /> <br />INTERACTION: Public Works, Prosecuting Attorney Office, Washington State <br />Broadband Office <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: Approve a Resolution Authorizing the Chair’s signature on the <br />Federal Capital Contract with the Washington State Broadband Office <br />for broadband expansion in the County and to Accept Federal and <br />State funding for the project. <br /> <br />HANDLING: Return One original to Public Works <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS: Resolution, Federal Capital Contract <br /> <br />LEAD STAFF: Josh Fredrickson, Director
