KITTITAS COUNTY <br />SOLID WASTE, MAINTENANCE, AND FAIR OFFICE STUDY SESSION MINUTES <br />BOCC CONFERENCE ROOM, 205 WEST 5TH ROOM 108 - ELLENSBURG <br />Regular Meeting <br />TUESDAY 2:00 PM June 12, 2018 <br />Board members present: Vice -Chairman, Obie O'Brien. Commissioner, Paul Jewel <br />Absent: Chairman, Laura Osiadacz <br />Others: Patti Johnson, Lisa Young, Lisa Lawrence, Tim Egan, Daily Record Reporter and one <br />member of the public. <br />Meeting called to order at 2:02 p.m. <br />Solid Waste Updates <br />Patti informed the Board that garbage is up 6% this year and the Facilities have had 40,000 <br />customers to date. She also informed the Board that the Part Time Scale house Attendant started <br />and will assist with coverage and educational outreach at the sites. <br />Recycling in Grasslands and other unincorporated areas in Kittitas County <br />Discussion was held on the process it would take to implement curbside recycling in Grasslands, <br />Suncadia and other un-incorporated areas in the County. Including a Level of Service Ordinance, <br />the expense of Waste Management Cost Recovery Model with blended rates for garbage and <br />recycling through the WUTC. Further discussion included the current status of recycling being <br />unstable and conducting a recycling price tolerance survey of County Residents. The Board <br />directed Staff to table discussion and re-visit spring 2019. <br />Siting Project Update <br />Patti informed the Board that she is working on it and that Public Works may be interested in co - <br />locating with Solid Waste. Commissioner Jewell stated that he secured an appraisal and the <br />Phase 1 Environmental assessment which should be completed by the end of the month. <br />Household Hazardous Waste Position Update <br />Patti informed the Board that no applications were received and that she re -posted the position <br />until July I". Expanding advertising through SWANA in Washington and Oregon. The Board <br />said they would add it to their Facebook pages. <br />Bloom Pavilion Grant Project Update <br />The Board signed the Grant at an earlier meeting. Discussion was held on matching funds from <br />Lodging Tax. Patti informed the Board that ALSC is working to get the project ready to go out to <br />2018-06-12 MINUTES 1 <br />
