KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />AGENDA STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA DATE: October 20, 2009 <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Approve and Sign a Resolution Noticing the <br />Intent to Establish the Kittitas County Flood Mitigation <br />Task Force <br />BACKGROUND: The flood events of November 1995, February 1996, and <br />January 2009 brought forth leadership in various communities indicating a strong desire <br />that the county deal with the devastating effects of flooding. The purpose of the Kittitas <br />County Flood Mitigation Task Force will be to address flood management needs within <br />the county. The activities could include, but are not limited to, flood warning and <br />emergency response, consistency with the principles of the National Flood Insurance <br />Program, implementation of consistent development regulations that recognize the <br />impacts of flooding, basin wide flood planning, support improving river and stream <br />health for public benefit, and the identification, engineering, and construction of long and <br />short-term capital projects to mitigate and/or address flooding problems. <br />INTERACTION: Public Works <br />RECOMMENDATION: Board of County Commissioners approve and sign the <br />Resolution establishing the Kittitas County Flood <br />Mitigation Task Force. <br />HANDLING: Return one original to Public Works <br />ATTACHMENTS: Resolution <br />LEAD STAFF: Kirk Holmes <br />Director of Public Works <br />
