BOCC Public Hearing 6/2/2026
Good evening, my name is Shelly McMaster, and I'm here tonight to speak in support of
the Easton Subarea Plan.
would like to thank Jeremy Johnston for his help and guidance to our community
during the planning process.
What I appreciate about the proposed plan is that it recognizes what makes Easton
special: its quiet rural setting, outdoor-oriented identity, natural environment, rich history,
and the strong sense of community that has brought people here and kept them here for
generations.
The subarea plan is critical because it provides Easton a thoughtful and
community-driven path forward. At the same time, the plan is realistic. Easton does
have real needs. We need thoughtful support for public safety, public spaces, small
businesses, housing options, and responsible recreation. Supporting this plan does not
mean supporting unchecked or inappropriate growth. Rather, it establishes a framework
for managing growth responsibly—protecting the character of the community while
allowing practical improvements that strengthen Easton and serve it's local residents.
Supporting this plan means supporting a future where growth is guided, not random. It
means directing attention toward areas where limited development and revitalization
make sense, while protecting the surrounding rural and recreational lands that make
Easton what it is. It also gives Easton a more active role when working with the county
and other agencies, rather than leaving our future uncertain or reactive.
The proposed plan reflects years of community input and collaboration and it's a strong,
necessary step. It gives us a framework to preserve what we love, address what we
need, and move forward with intention instead of leaving Easton's future to chance.
For those reasons, I respectfully ask that you support the Easton Subarea Plan. Thank
you for your time and for your service to our community.
I sincerely request that these remarks be entered into the official meeting minutes for
public record.
Respectfully, Shelly McMaster Community Member, Kittitas County
