potential upgrades in relation to community development and business
support over the next twenty years. It is important that Easton understands
adopting a Subarea Plan does not mean immediate construction or
changes, but that it provides a framework to address future updates which
may occur as the service needs in Easton change due to potential growth
and development.
An example of change which is already occurring is the growing trend in
year-round recreational use, which brings more people into the community.
We are also experiencing larger events. These increases alone are currently
impacting parking availability in the town area as well as other tourism
related needs. The other potential change that may occur is when property
ownership changes within existing closed buildings along Railroad Street.
To address these concerns as well as others that align with growth,
developing a community-led revitalization plan with Kittitas County's support
can unite Easton around a shared vision. This plan would reflect our values
and guide future businesses along Railroad Street, regardless of ownership.
3. Potential for a community sewer/LOSS septic system.
This is an important goal within the subarea plan. Leaving it as a fact-finding
process allows for discussion and review to occur during the Subarea Plan's
duration. In the 1980's Easton, after years of trying to address low water flow,
developed a Water District. Growth and need dictated this process. While
not all of Easton is included in the Water District, it has enabled Easton to
meet the demands of residents and businesses. The same could be true for
the need for LOSS septic systems. Railroad Street's closely built structures will
require a septic system if businesses are to reopen, or the Easton School
facilities should expand. Another example of need resides with the existing
trailer park in Easton. There may be need, at some time for this property
owner to upgrade into a system that meets any health regulation changes
or expansion of housing should that occur.
Support for the Subarea Plan
With the support of CDS, Easton has come through a long process of looking
at our community from many different angles. While not everyone agrees
with some of the chapters and goals within the Subarea Plan, it is an
important framework for our community. Our community is coming together
for open discussions about Easton's future, addressing challenges and
making progress to preserve and celebrate our town.
As we approach the completion and adoption of the Subarea Plan, I
sincerely thank CDS for their support of our community and the work that has
been done to prepare this plan for adoption. This is an important milestone
