For a popular winter
destination, ice on the roadway can limit
stopping sight distances and make approaching
the intersection dangerous. Lighting provides
advanced warning of a congested area as well
as makes the intersection safer for drivers and
pedestrians.
Reconfigure the roadway to reduce the
intersection width and decrease sign distance
from roadway.
Reduce the shoulder outside of the minimum
pavement area to discourage parking and
provide additional snow storage. Apply low-
cost countermeasures at stop-controlled
intersections. Treatments could include:
ƒStop bars at existing stop sign locations.
ƒAdvanced warning signs
(“Stop Ahead”, W3-1).
ƒOversized stop signs.
Intersection Improvement
Intersection of SR 906 & Yellowstone Road
Construct a roundabout as a long-term solution to
illuminate confusion at the existing tee-intersection and
provide a continuous flow of traffic to reduce congestion.
Intersection Improvement
Intersection of I-90 EB Off-
ramp & Yellowstone Road
As a long-term solution, restrict left-turn
movements from the EB I-90 off-ramp to reduce
the length of backups on the off-ramp extending
to mainline I-90. Removing cars waiting to take
a left-turn could allow drivers to turn right in
less time from the EB off ramp and use the
roundabout at SR 906 & Yellowstone Road to
travel east on Yellowstone Road.
Intersection Improvement CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENTS
Corridor improvements approaching
Yellowstone Road along SR 906 are
addressed in the Location D: Summit
Central and Location G: Summit West.
CROSSING TREATMENTS
There are no pedestrian or cyclist facilities
in this area that would necessitate crossing
treatments.
Landscape or hardscape
buffer
Intersection Improvement
51 Snoqualmie Pass Comprehensive Safety Plan | Kittitas County
