Sufficient budget must be allocated for renewing pavement
markings for the proposed solutions to be effective.
* Washington Spatial Data portal, WSDOT – Traffic Counts (AADT) Current map,
https://gisdata-wsdot.opendata.arcgis.com/datasets/wsdot-traffic-counts-aadt-current/
explore?location=47.417989%2C-121.409286%2C16.35
† CRFs are approximated based on the data provided by the FHWA Proven Safety Countermeasures.
‡ Costs are based on a preliminary engineer’s estimate of magnitude.
Collision History
Between 2014 and 2023, there were 18 reported collisions in and adjacent
to this priority area, including one KSI collisions and three possible or minor
injury collisions. Of these 18 collisions, 15 collisions involved a vehicle
going straight ahead, while eight collisions involved a driver exceeding the
reasonably safe speed limit. One collision involved a vulnerable road user.
Non-Collision Concerns
Additional concerns were identified in this area through public comments,
stakeholder feedback, and observation by the County and consultants.
Concerns include:
ƒCongestion on Exit 52 E off-ramp.
ƒIntersection confusion due to signs
that are out of sight, sight distance
issues, unclear pavement markings,
and size of the intersection.
ƒLack of pedestrian
connectivity between Summit
West and Alpental.
ƒWide roadway is challenging
for pedestrians to cross,
encourages illegal parking, and
encourages high speeds.
16%6%
15
Involved a
vehicle going
straight ahead.
Collisions 8
Involved a driver
exceeding the
reasonably safe
speed limit.
Collisions 1
Involved a
vulnerable road
user.
Collision
Possible or minor
injury collisions
KSI
Collision31
18 Reported Collisions
Of the 18 collisions:
48Kittitas County | Snoqualmie Pass Comprehensive Safety Plan
