How can we <br />effectivety share this information? <br />People with Lived Experience: Key messages brainstormed were the fottowing: <br />. Peopte are closer to hometessness than they realize. Not atl hometess peopte look the same, stop marginatizing <br />' Everyone has different reasons for being hometess. Stop judgment, it's not a moral faiting. Be more accepting-lead with the heart. Understanding where someone is coming from. Give more grace-peopte make mistakes <br />The best way to get messages out woutd be social media, flyers, signs on corners, biltboards, and <br />getting out in the community to share success stories. <br />. "We need to stop marginatizing peopte who are deating with hometessness into a cookie- <br />cutter image....Everyone is different and they have different reasons for why they're <br />hometess whether abuse, addiction, mental health, disabilities, anything." <br />. "There's something to be said for connecting with them on a deeper levet...understanding <br />where they're coming from and why they're there." <br />. "lt doesn't matter what you did in your past. What matters is what you're doing now to <br />change that." <br />Service Providers: Key messages discussed were: <br />. They are human and there's not a simpte way out of hometessness <br />' These are our neighbors. Many peopte are just a step away from hometessness. Education about the societal and economic causes of hometessness <br />Best ways to get out messaging that were discussed included getting peopte engaged in <br />votunteering as a way to learn more about people who are experiencing hometessness, ontine <br />communication, virtual community meetings, and forums with peopte with lived experience. lt <br />was also discussed the importance of having a moderator for discussions, identifying what <br />different peopte have in common in terms of opinions, and having information avaitabte in <br />Spanish. <br />. "They're human peopte. Babies, toddters, chitdren, sons and daughters. There's not a <br />simple way out." <br />. "...how do we...get them engaged, proactive, and hetping? How do we get them interested <br />in volunteering...and get them into the conversations that are happening?" <br />. "Changing a person's personal betief and ethics is a wasted time sometimes. lf you can <br />bump up the peopte already on board, you have more peopte working to change the other <br />peopte over time." <br />15
