Historically, this has included zip code tracking, walk-through counts, and
retail partner observations, confirming that visitors come from over 50 miles away, other states, and even internationally.
In 2025, we contracted Placer Labs, a geo-fencing analytics platform, to obtain more precise data on visitor locations and
movement patterns. Placer data allows us to analyze visitors who remain at an event for 10 minutes or longer, providing a more
accurate representation of active engagement. Limitations exist: data only reports when sample sizes are sufficient (≥300
people) and relies on cell phone location services, so children or individuals without phones are not captured.
To address these limitations, we cross-validate Placer data with direct counts at youth- and family-focused events. For example,
Boo-Elum 2024 had a direct count of 1,500 participants, indicating a 2.5x multiplier adjustment for Placer data for this event.
Similarly, Flagpole Park Holiday Lighting is directly counted due to its small scale and surrounding residential areas, averaging
200–250 participants.
Additional metrics include Google Analytics, registration forms, and social media performance, which help us track engagement,
website traffic, and outreach effectiveness. While informal surveys were trialed to assess overnight stays, Placer Labs now
provides a more reliable method for analyzing lodging patterns, showing where visitors go before and after visiting downtown
Cle Elum.
By integrating direct counts, geo-fencing analytics, and digital engagement data, CEDA ensures a comprehensive
understanding of visitor origins, behavior, and lodging trends, enabling more effective event planning, marketing, and tourism
development strategies.
2500 character limit
