Each year the County inspects approximately 50% of its bridges on an alternating basis to comply with the
SNBI requirement of a 24-month routine inspection cycle. During these inspections potential problems
and maintenance issues are identified and documented. Inspection reports are then submitted to the
Washington State Department of Transportation. Bridge files include inspection report history and are on
file in the Public Works office in paper and in a digital file format. Starting in 2026, inspection report history
will be maintained in digital format only. Paperfiles will continue to be implemented for any new structure
or replacement structure that is entered into the inventory.
BRIDGE PROJECT TEN-YEAR HISTORY
2025
Bridge number 05271 South Cle Elum Way over the Yakima River has had failed expansion joints
resulting in debris buildup around the roller bearings on top of both abutment walls. County crews
cleaned the debris buildup underneath on top of the abutments and installed new pourable expansion
joints, creating a new seal on top preventing debris buildup underneath.
Bridge number 95021 Upper Peoh Pt. Rd. overthe Hiline Canal has had its original expansion joint
system replaced which contributed to heavy bridge impact at each end of the bridge due to un-even
pavement levels. County crews were able to remove existing asphalt from each approach end and a
portion of asphalt off the bridge deck on each side and remove the old compression seal expansion
joints and again used a pourable sealant for the installation of new joints. New asphalt was then applied
bringing the asphalt grade level to the bridge deck, eliminating the impact to the bridge and providing a
new expansion joint at each bridge end.
2024
The Liberty Road bridge replacement project over Swauk Creek was completed in the fall of 2024. This
new prestressed concrete slab structure with cast -in -place concrete deck and concrete barrier replaces a
weight restricted and structurally deficient bridge. This project was funded with federal funds.
The Cooke Canyon Road bridge replacement project over the Hiline Canal was completed in the spring
of 2024. This new prestressed concrete slab structure replaced a weight restricted and structurally
deficient bridge. This project was funded with federal funds.
The Faust Road bridge replacement project over Town Ditch was completed in the spring of 2024. This
is also a new prestressed concrete slab structure replacing a weight restricted, structurally deficient
bridge. This project was also funded with federal funds.
2023
A new Pre -stressed Concrete T-girder bridge was constructed on North Fork Teanaway Road crossing
the North Fork Teanaway River replacing a weight restricted concrete structure with previous accident
damage. This project was funded with federal funds.
Also new in 2023, a Prestressed Concrete T-girder bridge on the Vantage Highway replaced an aging and
weight restricted bridge with timber elements that crosses the Cascade canal.
Kittitas County 2025 Annual Bridge Report
