Washington Department of Natural Resources in addition to the reference to Ecology and Fish and Wildlife. DNR, via Washington Geological Survey, provides BAS for geologically hazardous areas. On page 33, KCC § 17A.02.620. Qualified professional. "A qualified professional for preparing Geologically Hazardous Area Assessments must be a professional geologist or engineering geologist licensed in the State of Washington." Great! On page 59 "§ 17A.06.020. Designation, classification, and mapping. Designation. Lands classified as landslide, erosion (including channel migration zones), alluvial fan, seismic, and mine hazard areas, are hereby designated as geologically hazardous areas." Great to see the detailed provisions about alluvial fan! Great to the Washington Department of Natural Resources mentioned on page 61 with mapping info. DNR has more maps than the historic maps that are mentioned. Suggest including a reference to the Washington Geologic Information Portal. On page 62, good to see "Critical facilities prohibited. Critical facilities shall not be sited within landslide, erosion, alluvial fan, or mine hazard areas unless there is no other practical alternative." On page 66, the code refers to the Geologically Hazardous Areas Risk Assessment and a Geotechnical Report. Geotechnical report has a definition in the code. That definition does not include the term Geologically Hazardous Areas Risk Assessment. Suggest adding that term to the definition so the terms are both defined and in agreement. Also, so it is clear that there is just one type of geotechnical report/review/assessment rather than a tiered approach. Overall, the code provisions are thoughtful, well -written, and detailed.
