There <br />has been some progress on additional housing (Sterting Court) but these priorities need to be <br />addressed simuttaneously in order to have an impact. Participants fett that behaviorat heatth <br />seryices shoutd be inctuded in the priorities. There were also comments about expanding <br />community awareness and questions about what the state of avaitabitity of resources is. <br />. "l feel [ike we have the same priorities. I think we have made headway on additional <br />housing. I don't know if I'd cat[ it affordable housing.". "We need to increase affordable housing more and be more adept at doing it in a <br />responsive way. The other support services alongside shetter have to inctude the <br />behavioral heatth issues that will enable peopte to stay in the shetter.". "ln reviewing these, I think they're on the right track. But it's atmost tike they need to <br />progress at the same time. You can't have an increased hometess response without <br />resources available or structures to address that response. " <br />Community llembers: Participants fett that yes, these are sti[[ broad priorities, but also need to <br />prioritize rapid rehousing programs, expanding options for HUD housing, and tegistative advocacy. <br />There was additional discussion about the community tand trust and high rents. There was <br />concern expressed that the rapid rehousing program has not been abte to be funded the past <br />coupte of years. There was a perception that there are more HUD options than peopte know <br />about. There was atso concern about properties being "flipped" and thus experiencing an <br />increases in costs. <br />o "[The rapid rehousing program] woutd hetp more of our homeless, and not just tow <br />income, which we haven't done for two years right? lt sounds like we need to get <br />something back in ptace." <br />. "Maybe some lobbyists? lf the community coutd recognize what tegistation woutd hetp <br />with that, it coutd hetp with housing, bring some mode[ in that woutd hetp them al[, not <br />just the homeless but the other people who are struggting too." <br />Central Washington University: Most of the discussion revotved around the importance of the <br />community education piece. Engaging the community in the hometessness issue and educating <br />people about what it's like to experience poverty and hometessness is important. lt was <br />expressed that we need to humanize peopte who are experiencing homelessness. There was atso <br />discussion about the need to address addiction, mental heatth, and trauma. <br />. "The community engagement and awareness in education is important. The community <br />obviousty doesn't understand the reatities of what these peopte are experiencing....We <br />can't realty move forward with initiative if there's no community support." <br />. "However, fundamentatly it's an issue of humanization....We need to start seeing these <br />peopte as people. " <br />. "...this is a neighborty community. When you integrate the neighbors into this kind of <br />cotlective action for hometessness, the community outreach, that's how you solve this <br />issue. You can get the fundamental structure of the town to change." <br />14
