'...
llwaco Fire Station
ILWACO, WA
MWA Architects designed the new 10,000 SF llwaco Fire
Station to replace the previous station that was lost in a fire
in 2OO7. The building houses a volunteer fire department,
chief's office, small museum, 5 drive-through apparatus bays,
shower room, a kitchen, public bathrooms, and community
meeting room.
The fire station is nestled in the heart of downtown llwaco
along coastal Highway 101. MWA worked closely with the city
to provide a building that would address the current and future
needs of the all volunteer staff and the other community func-
tions. These needs lncluded providing adequate space for fire
and EMS apparatus, training facilities, community hall and a
fire museum. MWA designed the new building to fit into the
fabric of the current community while providing for future
expansion to a full time paid company with an unfinished,
upstairs volume that will serve as future bunk rooms.
The interior is organized to provide clean circulation path-
ways that connect the community, administration, and
response functions. The simple coastal building design's
exterior is clad with a mix of cedar lap sidlng and board and
battens, highlighted by wood post and beam elements that
tie the building together.
KEY FEATURES
> New construction of fire station
> MWA coordinated the needs of multiple stakeholders
> Designed to serve present and future needs
PROJECT INFORMATION
Project Team: MWA Architects
Project Type: New Fire Station
Size: 10,000 SF
Client: City of llwaco
MWA ARCH TICTS 5
x
