The project is currently in the design phase, with 60 percent designs expected by January <br />2026 and construction is targeted for 2027. Kittitasy Counthas submitted a funding <br />application to t <br />he Floodplai*ns by Design program for project implementation, and the <br />Department of Ecology has prepared a corresponding funding agreement. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />Key project components include: <br />removing existing levees and berms within the project area,, <br />constructing setback berms for flood protection, <br />partially restoring Hansen Pits,, and <br />creating and reconnecting side -channel habitat. <br />Public access features, such as a parking area off Stone Road and a designated trail <br />location, will also be identified. <br />The restoration design for the Hansen Pits area has evolved significantly since the <br />conceptual phase. These revisions reflect efforts to address long-term risks of river <br />avulsion into the project area. <br />FISCAL IMPACTS: <br />The project is included in the Flood Control Zone District' <br />Plan and the 2026 budget.
