Upper Kittitas County Senior Center – AccessPlus: Serving our Seniors and Heroes
Funding Request: $ 117,531.38
Average Score: 18.7/25
The Upper Kittitas County Senior Center (UKCSC) implemented the AccessPlus program to
improve mental wellbeing for seniors. Older adults in rural areas like Kittitas County face unique
mental health challenges, including social isolation and loneliness, depression, anxiety, cognitive
decline, dementia, substance abuse, PTSD (particularly in veterans), grief and loss. To combat
this, UKCSC will provide programs revolving around social connection, cognitive stimulation, art,
and physical activity. They will work with a nutritionist for healthier food services and offer
referrals to the KCHN Community Medicine Program or Hearts and Hands to patrons who need
them.
Why they are being recommended: They are the only project to focus on the mental health of
the elderly population, their requested funding is small in comparison to other proposals, and
the facility has demonstrated consistent use in upper county.

In conclusion, we urge the Board of County Commissioners to approve the funding proposals for
Boys and Girls Club – STRIVE: Support, Tools, and Resilience for Inspiring Vulnerable Youth
CWU Community Clinic
HopeSource - Behavioral Health Bridge Program
Kittitas County Health Network – THRIVE Youth Mentoring
Peers Rising – Warmth & Wellness: Resilience and Life Skills Support in Kittitas County
Upper Kittitas County Senior Center – AccessPlus: Serving our Seniors and Heroes

This investment will not only address critical needs within our community but also contribute to
the overall well-being and prosperity of our county residents.
We appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to your consideration.

Sincerely,

Mark Larson, M.D.
509-899-6448
