2025 Hazard Mitigation Plan
Kittitas County, Washington

Chapter 6: Plan Maintenance 231
• A public meeting could be held annually to provide the public with a forum for discussing concerns,
opinions, and ideas with the Steering Committee.
• Kittitas County Sherriff’s Office (Emergency Management) will conduct outreach after a disaster
event to remind members of the public the importance of mitigation and to solicit mitigation ideas
to be included in the Plan.
6.1.1.2. Implementation and Integration through Existing Plans and Programs
Hazard mitigation practices must be incorporated within existing plans, projects, and programs.
Therefore, the involvement of all departments, private non-profits, private industry, and appropriate
jurisdictions is necessary in order to find mitigation opportunities within existing or planned projects and
programs. To execute this, the Steering Committee will assist and coordinate resources for the mitigation
actions and provide strategic outreach to implement mitigation actions that meet the goals and objectives
identified in this Plan. The information on hazard, risk, vulnerability, and mitigation included in this Plan
update is based on the best science and technology available at the time this Plan was completed. Plan
integration consists of the incorporation of hazard mitigation into other relevant planning mechanisms
(e.g., general planning and capital improvement planning).

The Hazard Mitigation Plan is essential to understanding the hazards facing Kittitas County, the resulting
prioritized list of hazards is used across the suite of Kittitas County and local jurisdic tions plans, and
community partner organizations, thus creating a shared understanding of the hazards facing the County.

The results of this Plan will be incorporated into ongoing planning efforts throughout the County. Kittitas
County, its municipalities, and special districts will update zoning plans and related ordinances, as
necessary, and as part of regularly scheduled updates. Each plan participant will be responsible for
updating and integrating elements of the Plan into the community’s own respective community plans and
ordinances.
6.1.1.3. The Five-Year Action Plan
This section outlines the implementation agenda that the Hazard Mitigation Steering Committee, led by
Kittitas County Public Works, should follow five (5) years after adoption of this Plan, and then every five
(5) years thereafter.

The Steering Committee will consider the following action plan for the five (5) year planning cycle. It
should be noted that the schedule on Table 6-1 can be modified as necessary and does not include any
meetings and/or activities that would be necessary following a disaster event (e.g., reconvening the
Hazard Mitigation Steering Committee within 45 days of a disaster or emergency to determine what
mitigation projects should be prioritized during the community recovery). If an emergency meeting of the
Hazard Mitigation Steering Committee occurs, this proposed schedule may be altered to fit any new
needs.
Table 6-1.
