KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />PUBLIC WORKS — BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT <br />STUDY SESSION DATE: April 14, 2025 <br />TOPIC: Kittitas County CWU Technology Transfer Center <br />Feasibility Project Update <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Provide Direction to Staff <br />LEAD STAFF: <br />Joshua Fredrickson <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Provide Direction to Staff <br />BRIEFING SUMMARY: <br />• Kittitas County was awarded planning grant funding from the Washington State <br />Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) <br />• Project will develop the Kittitas County CWU Technology Transfer Center <br />Feasibility Study <br />• Project development is underway, with an upcoming kickoff meeting with <br />stakeholders <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) selected <br />Kittitas County to receive planning grant funding. This funding is to aid in financing the <br />cost of the Kittitas County CWU Technology Transfer Center Feasibility Study (Project). <br />A consultant was selected and project development is ongoing at this time. This <br />feasibility study is a partnership with Central Washington University (CWU). <br />This Project will research the architecture and construction costs to repurpose an existing <br />vacant industrial building to create hospitality, meeting and office space. The vacant <br />building is known as the Old Heat Plant, located near University Way and N. Anderson <br />Road in Ellensburg. The feasibility study will also explore the feasibility public/private <br />partnerships. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />A kickoff meeting has been scheduled for April 29, 2025. With the project having <br />potential regional impact, representatives from CWU, legislative representatives, CERB <br />members, local government officials have been invited to participate.
