' -- pM1Snoes..-rp the KITTITAS VALLEY EVENT CENTER
Home of the Kittitas County Fair and Ellensburg Rodeo
xfi'rrrras va- ° 901 E. 71 Ave, Suite 1, Ellensburg, WA 98926
jVeGza• EventCenter@co.kittitas.wa.us
Office (509) 962-7639
` her rir,s coun Fax (509) 962-7010
STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT
AGENDA DATE: April 28, 2025
AGENDA ITEM: Emergency Plan Coordination Update
BACKGROUND: The KVEC Director has met with stakeholders and emergency
services on initial conversations to enhance emergency
preparedness across the Fair and Rodeo grounds. The goal is to
create a cohesive plan across the property, so all volunteers,
emergency services, security, and staff are utilizing the same
protocol. The planning will lead to better informed volunteers and
more efficient, clear communication.
The Sheriff s office is also developing a QR code we can place on
the fence at the entrances for event attendees to sign up for
Everbridge. If they sign up, Everbridge will immediately notify
them of any emergency action needing to be taken, if we fall into an
emergency event.
The Sheriff s Reserve Program has volunteered to set up a booth at
the fair entrances to implement our Lost Child bracelet program.
This will be a great added feature for our families with young kids
so we can track down parents more expediently when we find a lost
child.
Fair Security will be ramped up a little this year, at no extra cost,
thanks to EPD that has assigned a couple officers to cover the
carnival area on Friday and Saturday nights. Increased uniform
presence is the best safety measure to avoid incidents on the
fairgrounds.
However, we have been monitoring SB 5814 in the WA Legislature
that has now passed in the senate and house. This bill will enforce
that a new tax on security services, so the Fair will be facing that
extra cost once it is signed into law.
Stationed gate security will be utilized greater on our non -ticketing
gates to do credential checks. With that adjustment, we will be able
to decrease the number of temporary hires as well.
INTERACTION: Kittitas Valley Event Center
Kittitas County Fair Board - Security and Admissions
Board of County Commissioners
LEAD STAFF: Kady Porterfield, Kittitas Valley Event Center Director
