Survey on Short Term Rentals
areas require a longer rental period to reduce the weekend party atmosphere. We have limited
local Sherriff resources to cover thousands of square miles. Visitors have nearly ruined our
beautiful area with abuse of the area and leave horrible amounts of trash behind. Who pays to
remove trash?Who monitors law breakers when visitors are in our community? How do locals
get groceries when visitors wipe out Safeway?Abuse of systems and laws results in increased
regulation!
11 It seems to cause the price of housing to increase, making it difficult for local residents to 3/5/2025 9:37 PM
purchase a home to live in. It seems as though many short term rentals are owned by people
not residing in our county.
12 The community at large doesn't want new developers coming in and building a bunch of new 3/5/2025 6:33 PM
neighborhoods, yet we need more housing supply to quench the demand. Why are we allowing
so many short term rentals, when those homes could help solve the housing affordability
crisis?
13 1 believe short term rentals are vital and bring significant income into Kittitas county 3/2/2025 3:29 PM
14 Don't regulate everything 2/28/2025 3:44 PM
15 Str ruins the neighborhood with partying, loud noises late into the night/morning. 2/26/2025 10:35 PM
16 Short-term renters have been a breath of fresh air in Hyak Estates! They are outside having 2/26/2025 1:02 PM
fun with their families, laughing with their kiddos, and enjoying the beautiful environment with
friends. I want everyone who's interested in making memories in the mountains to have the
opportunity.Additionally, limiting STRs in Hyak, would limit the number of people able to
purchase homes in our expensive community. I don't own an STIR, but we absolutely need
them in our neighborhood :) PS. The Hyak HPOA Short-Term Rental committee sent out a
similar survey...the results were overwhelmingly positive towards STRs in the neighborhood.
17 If managed properly, SRTs can be a good thing. There are a few at the Pass that are run by 2/26/2025 8:57 AM
people who care nothing about the neighborhood. They take advantage and their guests are
obnoxious, rude, unruly, and stupid. But that's the exception, not the norm. We've lived full
time at the Pass, rented long term to Summit Employees (which was a total nightmare), and
operated as a STIR. By far the best experience was living there. Next was STIR. Last was LTR.
Note that in order to cover expenses an LTR for the same house won't be'affordable'. These
properties are really expensive and no one is going to supplement someone else's housing.
18 The coubty should not over regulate them. If a neighborhood doesnt want them -they should 2/26/2025 5:44 AM
put the restrictions in their ccrs
19 please note, STIR through public booking sites already pay taxes associated with the STIR 2/25/2025 12:56 PM
20 No 2/25/2025 12:39 AM
21 1 love staying in an air bnb it accommodates my whole family, happily. I also work at a 2/24/2025 2:36 PM
restaurant in the community and a lot of my customers enjoy staying in a home setting rather
than hotels. It's a win win for home owners, clients and the businesses in the area
22 1 work seasonally in winter for All Season's Vacation rentals out of Roslyn, & I rely heavily on 2/24/2025 11:16 AM
this job to support our family. Adding restrictions may decrease opportunity for employment. I
am also the owner of Rose&Sparrow Floral Design &am Suncadia's preferred vendor.
Restrictions on STRs may also negatively affect a couple's decision to get married there, or in
the area, as the rental properties within&outside the resort are easily able to accommodate
entire families &large groups. This may reduce my summer business &yearly income as well.
believe certain restrictions on the number of new STRs outside of Suncadia resort is
reasonable, unless the neighborhood community is marketed towards vacation rentals/2nd
homes, which many seem to be(like areas of Ronald Ridge for example.) I have resided in
different short term rentals myself for the last 7 years in this county, until purchasing a home in
Thorp last year, so I don't have as much knowledge or experience with understanding the
affects on the local community, housing&economy (many families have lived here for
generations, unlike myself.) I've only realized that cost of homes has increased exponentially
since I moved from Snoqualmie in 2018, but that was to be expected as cost&population is
rising just as quickly on the westside. My husband& I certainly couldn't afford to buy property
in the city of Roslyn, as everything in our budget was either a total renovation project or tear
down/rebuild. My husband works for High Country Excavation in summer& DOT in winter
plowing, so his income is also perhaps indirectly contingent on new short term rentals being
built. He has done quite a lot of work at Suncadia&out in Ronald, though many of these may
70/96
