Survey on Short Term Rentals
Q20 Do you have any additional comments or concerns regarding short-
term rentals in our Kittitas County?
Answered: 377 Skipped: 518
# RESPONSES DATE
1 Short term rentals are heavily impacting our area. These renters visit for a short period of time 4/6/2025 10:54 PM
and do not respect our area the same way as our community members. The recklnessness
and danger they bring is disgusting. It's impacting communities everywhere in Kittitas County,
especially upper county.
2 They county doesn't need to enforce regulations any further. 3/20/2025 5:56 PM
3 They need to be better monitored for tax collection purposes 3/18/2025 2:51 PM
4 1 am deeply concemed about folks renting a short term in the"country"part of Yes A fresh pot 3/18/2025 11:06 AM
Kittias That's Caughey County and starting a wildfire. WHO will be held responsible for starting
up a bbq,for example, with charcoal briquettes, and we lose our house??Going through the
Taylor Bridge Fire in 2012 was bad enough. We were evacuated twice!! Ai A home one mile
away from ours was a TOTAL loss. Please be careful of approving this code. Please, deeply
consider all of the possible scenarios that could rear their ugly heads. Short term gains for an
"absentee"home owner with long term losses for those of us who live FULL time in our homes
and on our land.We have"14 heartbeats"on this place to evacuate. I don't want to do it again
because of someone else's negligence that doesn't live here 24/7/365.
5 Short term rentals can be beneficial to the community if done responsibly and with awareness 3/12/2025 7:55 PM
for local culture, community and needs
6 needs to have rules to maintain neighborhood quality of life 3/12/2025 10:26 AM
7 1 understand the concern but with so many folks in my industry out of work the implication of 3/9/2025 9:55 PM
not having the option to short term rent out my place means less money into the community
and Lilly short sells on houses. If you need cash short term rentals is viable. If the county
wants to regulate do classes on his to be a good host, don't make the community suffer with
over bearing rules and regulations. I moved out here to not have a HOA. The county sounds
like it wants to be a HOA. There could be all kinds of legal complications including loss of
estimated income due to new ordinance or rules with grandfathering in existing owners who
may have purchased a house there knowing they had short term rental as plan able should
they not have enough to cover the mortgage.
8 They are businesses held out as home rentals. They should be legally defined as a 3/9/2025 8:57 PM
businesses and subject to rules/regulations of a business. For example if located in an HOA
that disallows its members to operate a business within the HOA, short term rentals aka air
bnb should not be allowed
9 I'm concerned about unnecessary government interference and regulation of a small business 3/8/2025 12:52 PM
segment that provides important income to local families and that contributes to the local
economy. It has a low-impact environmental footprint and introduces people to the beauty of
the region.
10 All you need to do is study the"short term rental" nightmare that occurred in Chelan. Why not 3/6/2025 10:10 AM
learn from that and get ahead of the crisis?I'm not against short term rentals; I'm against
greedy short term rental owners who do not manage their guests and allow them to wreak
havoc All you need to do is study the"short term rental" nightmare that occurred in Chelan.
Why not learn from that and get ahead of the crisis? I'm not against short term rentals, I'm
against greedy short term rental owners who do not manage their guests and allow them to
wreak havoc on neighborhoods, increase risk of wildfires and do it all in the name of greed!
One of the short-term housing board members is a BULLY with a personal agenda since she's
an owner of short-term rentals. Anyone who speaks against her is a target of her attack. I
believe in capitalism but not at the expense of neighbors, wildlife, and forest fire. To
compromise on this, many towns have a limit on#of rental units, increased management
expectations, fines to the renters for breaking rules and requiring local management. Other
69/96
