Ryegrass LPL and Ryegrass Balefill Landfill Upgradient Groundwater
Investigation
Kittitas County Solid Waste
5. Water Quality Analysis
Water quality sampling of the new well will be accomplished following the updated Sampling and
Analysis Plan (Appendix B). The new well will be representative of conditions upgradient of both the
Balefill Landfill and LPL. Wells B3, B7, B8 and spring of Clerf #4 will be analyzed for WAC 137-350-
500 parameters on a quarterly basis. B2, B3, B4, B6, and Poison Spring will be analyzed for WAC
173-351-430 and WAC 173-351-990 Appendix I and Appendix II parameters on a semi-annual
basis. B8 will be analyzed quarterly for the WAC-173-351 parameters until eight quarters have been
completed then monitoring will be reduced to semi-annually.
The water quality samples will be submitted to an analytical laboratory for all parameters except
those collected in the field which include temperature, conductivity, pH, dissolved oxygen, oxidation-
reduction potential, and turbidity. Water quality from the initial sampling event will be compared to
the existing monitoring wells and summarized in the installation report.
Following eight quarters (2 years) of data collection, the data from B8 will be evaluated for statistical
analysis to assess whether interwell comparisons are suitable for the Facility. Currently data from the
Facility is analyzed by intrawell comparisons to background data (i.e. well data are compared to their
own historical data). The statistical parameters for upper prediction limits and control charts were
calculated for the 2023 annual report. Monitoring well B8 will likely be installed following the 2nd
quarter of 2024 indicating the first re-evaluation usingthe new well could be completed in the 2026
annual report (due April 1, 2027).
6. Reporting
A summary well installation report will be completed documenting the results of the investigation.
The well drilling report will include the following:
■ Well Drilling and Construction Logs
■ Well Development and Testing Results
■ Well Survey Information
■ Investigative Derived Waste disposal details
■ Field notes and other observations
■ Any deviations from this work plan
■ Geochemical evaluation, including cation -anion balancing and trilinear and/or stiff diagrams
comparing water chemistry between wells.
■ Groundwater monitoring laboratory and field data.
■ Updated groundwater gradients and contour maps
■ Recommendations
April 2024 1 553-17 63-010
Revised May 2024
