Ryegrass Limited Purpose Landfill and Balefill Closed landfill
Cmandwater and Leachate Sampling and Analysis Plan
KJttitas Gnunly Sulid weglr
?.F7.4 Laboratory
Laboratory QA/QC samples may consist of the following, depending on the analysis:
■ Method blanks
■ Duplicates
■ Instrument calibration verification standards
■ Laboratory control samples
■ Surrogate spiked samples
■ Performance evaluation QC check samples
Specific procedures and frequencies for laboratory QC are detailed by analytical method in the
laboratory QA Plan. A general description of the types of required laboratory QC samples is provided
in the following sections.
2.6.2.1, Method Blank
A minimum of one method blank will be analyzed per 20 samples or one per batch (whichever is
greater) to assess possible laboratory contamination. Method blanks will contain all reagents and
undergo all procedural steps used for analysis.
2.3., Laboratory Control Sample
A minimum of one laboratory control sample (LCS) will be analyzed per 20 samples or one per
sampling event (whichever is greater) to verify precision of laboratory equipment The LCS will be a
concentration within the calibration range at a different concentration than the standards used to
establish the calibration curve. LCS analysis will follow EPA LCS guidelines established in SW-846
(EPA 2018).
A minimum of one matrix spike (MS) will be analyzed per 20 samples or one per sampling event
(whichever is greater) to monitor recoverles and to assure that extraction and concentration levels
are acceptable. The MS will be analyzed on a separate water sample collected at a well. The matrix
spike will follow the matrix spike guidelines specified in EPA's Contract Laboratory Program
statements of work (EPA 2004, 2005).
t=;.2-.' Matrix Spike Duplicate
A minit11un1 of one matrix spike duplicate (MSD} per 20 samples will he analyzed far VOCs, or one per
sampling event (whichever is greater) to provide information on the precision of chemical analysis.
The MSD will be analyzed on a separate water sample collected at the same sampling station from
which the MD is collected, MSDs (rather than matrix duplicates) are analyzed for VOCs, because of
the large number of undetected compounds. Comparing the MS and MSD provides better
information on the quality of the data. The MSD will follow EPA MSD guidelines specified in SW•846
(EPA 2018).
April 2024 1550-1768.010
Revlsed May 2024
