KITTITAS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />STAFF REPORT FOR <br />BOARD OF HEALTH <br />Public Health Office <br />BOARD OF HEALTH DATE: 3/19/2025 <br />TOPIC: Vector Program Overview <br />ACTION REQUESTED: No Action — Information Only <br />LEAD STAFF: Melissa Schumaier, Environmental Health Specialist III <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />No action recommended at this time. <br />BRIEFING SUMMARY: <br />Melissa Schumaier will provide an overview of the Kittitas County vector program, including <br />how vector -borne disease patterns change over time and how these changes impact disease <br />reporting. She will also compare local vector occurrences to those in other countries to provide <br />context on regional trends. <br />The presentation will cover: <br />■ General Vector Program Overview <br />• Mosquito Program Overview <br />i Tick Surveillance Program <br />Melissa will present comparative data on tick populations and the diseases they can carry, <br />as well as what trends are expected locally. This will help clarify the scope of tick - <br />related public health risks in Kittitas County <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The vector program in Kittitas County is funded through grants from the Department of Health. <br />Because funding levels fluctuate annually, the programs activities vary from year to year.
