Survey on Short-Term Rentals
267 2/4/2025 3:52 PM
The number of primarily unoccupied homes that are only available as short term rentals
has priced me out of renting. I'm also a volunteer ff and have had many runs for smoke and
CO alarms or propane fires in BBQ. All seemingly due to lack of owner maintenance. This
issue has become pervasive in the upper county and for the owner, there's only profit and no
skin in the game. I would support a permitted limit, taxation, use fee or some detrimental
consequence that feeds the community. These consequences might cause some owners to
rent to residents instead of short term. I'm very passionate about this as it has priced me out
of the market and I cannot afford to stay in the area. Living with family and have a 6 figure
salary lol.
268 There are very few places for young people to rent/buy 2/4/2025 3:37 PM
269 Over 2/4/2025 3:35 PM
regulation of short term rentals is a slippery slope. Helping families make ends meet by
allowing another income stream is a good thing. Tourism and the money it brings to the county
is also a big deal. Short term rentals are a good compliment to hotels as it allows families to
gather to visit relatives or enjoy the beautiful places we call home.
270 STRs are likely not going anywhere(WA State Law) but 2/4/2025 3:28 PM
making sure they are properly managed makes sense. We want the revenues for local
businesses. That said, the problems arise at mismanaged or neglected properties. This should
be addressed.
271 2/4/2025 3:17 PM
Should be limited my number of properties. There is a difference in a home
owner selectively and occasionally renting out their home to offset the costs of ownership vs a
for profit business. If we limited the number of homes available for rent on an ownership basis
without limiting permits, we could still enable small private owners while discouraging
corporatization of housing. As an example, we occasionally rent our family cabin for holidays if
we won't be there. We own 1 property, we use it regularly, and feel like a community member.
If we had to pay a large licensing fee, we likely would not do this, which would result in
additional stays for'for profit' owners.
272 2/4/2025 3:15 PM
Don't do what Chelan county did!! It negatively impacted their tax base. Short term rentals
promote tourism which is one of the few viable industries in our county.
273 Put limits on short term rentals as soon as possible 2/4/2025 2:29 PM
as they are already steamrolling over our small community. The delays due to"Studies" has
been non productive and a waste of taxpayer money. Our Kittitas County Commissioners have
been non responsive to our local concerned citizens at community meetings.
274 This is not a typical suburban neighborhood. There 2/4/2025 2:23 PM
are no schools within 40 minutes. It is a tourist area and typical STIR concerns really don't
apply.
275 Just that most housing is getting bought 2/4/2025 2:21 PM
up for short vrbo/short term and no housing left for lower income rentals. Also in HOA's they
are using services for many renters that other HOA members are pay for and need to be
charged tripple the HOA fees.
276 Use short term rentals to generate more 2/4/2025 2:06 PM
tax revenue for the community to solve for issues like garbage/litter and monitoring regulatory
and community complaints
277 1 think they should be an option for a homeowner to implement but I think there should be 2/4/2025 1:55 PM
occupant rules
278 Local community HOAs should be able to determine how many STRs are 2/4/2025 1:48 PM
allowed in there communities
279 Should be strictly regulated if not banned. 2/4/2025 1:45 PM
Contributes to housing shortage and affect quality of life for residents of the county.
280 Since our county has become over indicated with short term rentals it is 2/4/2025 1:43 PM
no longer our forever home. We have purchased a place that we spend the summers, that
80/87
