Survey on Short-Term Rentals
with the platforms (Abnb/VRBO/Vacasa)to help solve the issues. Leave the others alone. So
many people bought their Kittitas property knowing that this could offset the cost of ownership.
Banning outright, or putting in regulations now would probably result in a lot of wasteful
lawsuits, and the local economy taking a major hit. The county will see a lot less back in taxes
too when housing values drop and commercial businesses drop... STRs are here to stay, long
term. There are existing levers to enact change or penalties for bad actors through HOAs, law
enforcement and most importantly through the Apps themselves.
89 As stated earlier, it is my opinion if any regulations are admitted they should be there to assist 2/7/2025 3:38 PM
the Owner, not patronize their ability to sustain a living here.
90 1 believe restrictions on STRs would cause disparate impact on Upper County since that is 2/7/2025 3:32 PM
where a lot of STRs are. Tourism positively impacts our economy. How many STRs actually
take housing away from citizens looking for a full time residence? Does the same property
really appeal to both those hunting for a full time residence and an STIR?
91 Too many people in one STIR. Water supply, noise, trespassing, reckless driving, the owner 2/7/2025 3:20 PM
doesn't control the occupants
92 1 do not favor government interference with business. STR's are often an investment by long 2/7/2025 3:20 PM
distance investors. There needs to be common sense regulation in place to protect owners
who enjoy this rural setting. STR's owners need to be permitted and they should carry serious
liability insurance to protect other property from from the stupidity of some visitors. I've had
them defy burn bans. When politely told that there is a burn ban and they could start a forest
fire destroying peoples homes, they're response was, "I don't care, I don't live here".
93 1 would support a complete ban on STRs as well. 2/7/2025 3:04 PM
94 1 do not support short term rentals in our community. Thanks. 2/7/2025 2:55 PM
95 STR's are a critical source of revenue for the county 2/7/2025 2:54 PM
96 Limit#people to house 3 beds should have no more than 6 people 2/7/2025 2:44 PM
97 would like the ability to enforce the laws that already exist easily like noise ordinance and fire 2/7/2025 2:40 PM
bans
98 Short term rentals are and will be a critical piece to the local economy. They provide numerous 2/7/2025 2:33 PM
benefits including, but not limited to, boosting the local economy, providing supplemental
revenue for residents, increase local property values and therefore tax revenues, and maybe
most importantly allows us to share this wonderful place we call home with others, so that they
can enjoy it too :)
99 1 understand people have the right to use their homes for the most part but these are basically 2/7/2025 2:24 PM
businesses being ran using single family homes. This area almost feels like it was taken
advantage of during the COVID housing boom because people with Microsoft area money were
able to come pay cash or outbid the locals who don't have that kind of equity. A lot of people
love the area but we are going to lose our next generation of workers in this area if housing
isn't figured out soon.
100 For the drain that short term rentals bring on our community if we are going to have them, they 2/7/2025 11:52 AM
should be taxed to cover the impact they make on our community and environment.
101 When I rented a rental in another county. There was a binder explaining all do's and dont's . It 2/7/2025 11:36 AM
was a beach rental and it told you not to walk on other people's property and to respect theit
property. It was all explained very well
102 Proper regulations and guidelines should be put in place. If a str is problematic then they can 2/7/2025 10:42 AM
have their license revoked. Since there is no real infrastructure (mayor, relying on sheriff's,)
Can it be done through the county, when they register? Not sure how it will work. Most folks
who work in Kittitas county can't afford an str home anyway. We don't have enough affordable
homes really anywhere. It's up to our municipalities to demand affordable homes. Those
should not be turned into Str.
103 Much of Kittitas economy is based on tourism. Short term rentals provide unique ways to show 2/7/2025 10:16 AM
off kittitas and fill a hole in the hospitality industry. The rentals provide better places for
families to stay and more unique places
104 This is a resort town with a ski slope. Short term rentals are small businesses and the bread 2/7/2025 10:13 AM
68 /87
